Opp is located in Covington County, Alabama just minutes away from the beautiful beaches on the Gulf Coast. As of 2000, Opp was home to just under 7,000 people. The town is located on Highway 331, just 20 miles from the Florida state line. Opp features many attractive qualities of small town living with a larger city feel. Opp History
Henry Opp lived in Andalusia and was a lawyer for the L&N Railroad. Opp won a case that allowed the L&N Railroad to complete their surveying and expand the railroad in Covington County. The area that the railroad went through was already inhabited by a few, but continued to attract more and more people as the little town was in a great location. The L&N Railroad encouraged the community's members to name the town after Opp in appreciation for giving their town existence.
Opp Parks and Recreation
Frank Jackson State Park The Frank Jackson State Park covers 2,050 acres and is located just north of Opp and offers fishing, camping, hiking, and water sports. The primary park attraction, Lake Jackson, provides fishing and swimming opportunities and also features shoreline picnic areas. Come explore the natural island complete with a boardwalk and walking path.

Opp is home to many fun and exciting events. The popular Rattlesnake Rodeo draws thousands of people each year to the south to experience the famous rattlesnake demonstrations and more. The Opp Fest brings the community together in a fun weekend full of arts, entertainment, food, car shows, and more. You won't want to miss these popular events!
The Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo The Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo draws approximately 20,000 people each year to Opp. The festival includes rattlesnake demonstrations, a songwriter competition, arts, crafts, and all kinds of food including fried rattlesnake. The festival also has big name musical acts on Friday and Saturday.
Opp Fest Opp Fest is held in downtown Opp the last weekend in October each year. The event features arts, crafts, entertainment, food, car shows, motorcycle shows, and more. The event is sponsored by the Downtown Redevelopment Authority and provides members of our local cultural arts council and school age children and youth to submit their art to be judged. The Opp Fest is a day of fun and gives the local downtown merchants an opportunity to place their merchandise on the sidewalks for those passing by to view and purchase.
